Analysis of Discriminatory Attitudes of Students

The appeal to the analysis of discriminatory attitudes of students is dictated by the current state of Russian society, a significant transformation of almost all spheres of its life, changing social structure of the population that provokes the emergence of social and spiritual conflicts, which greatly complicates the socio-cultural situation in the country as a whole, and in the educational space, in particular. The author describes the results of an empirical study of the features of the manifestation of cognitive and affective components of discriminatory attitudes in the behavior of respondents depending on their relationship to the Orthodox and Muslim religious tradition, since their presence even in some students can cause complications of intercultural communication, misunderstanding or conflict, which ultimately lead to destabilization of interethnic and interreligious relations both in the academic group and in society. The use of the Mann-Whitney U-test allowed the author to establish statistically significant differences in relation to migrants and representatives of other ethnic groups, persons without a certain place of residence and persons with non-traditional sexual behavior, to politicians and representatives of various subcultures among Orthodox and Muslim women. The study made it possible to reveal that the majority of respondents have a desire to interact with representatives of other ethnicity and religion, manifestations of political correctness in inter-ethnic and inter-religious contacts. However, in the absence of pronounced prejudices and a tendency to form discriminatory attitudes, there are also differences in the attitude of orthodox and muslim women to particular social groups. The results can be taken into account while developing preventive programs for the risk of discriminatory behavior.
