The Problem of Personal Identity: Relativism
The article is devoted to revelation of the essence of the relativistic approach to the problem of personal identity and identification. At the beginning of the work shall be approved by the main provisions of this approach as a methodological basis of philosophical inquiry. The author argues that a relativistic approach is associated with the ideas of philosophers postmodernists. Based on the analysis of postmodern ideas of the narrative ness, and also occurred in the society of transformation the author concludes that the process of personal identity and identification is faced with considerable difficulties and contradictions. Following the logic of the relational approach as a methodological base of research the author States that the idea of acentrism proposed in the system of relativistic views on culture, society and man, on the one hand, provides numerous possibilities for full self-realization, based on self-perception and, consequently, expressed in the most individual of self-presentation in society, and with another – leads to difficulties in the achievement of personal identity and realization of process of personal identification. In conclusion, the author makes a conclusion that has to be the fundamental impact of social transformations on both internal and external parties of personal identification.
