Expert Assessment of Social and Psychological Factors of Repeated Involvement in Criminal Activity of the Convicted
The problem of predicting repeated delinquency is relevant in the context of changing crime in the modern world. Risk assessment of the repetition of offences among of inmates is pragmatic, practically significant. The possibilities of using expert evaluation to predict the reintegration of inmates into criminal activity were investigated. Experts (prison officers) gave prediction options for the behavior of 87 inmates after they were released from prison. According to the experts’ opinion, a third of the average risk offenders are highly prone to repetition of an offence; a high percentage of the convicted people are inclined to an asocial lifestyle; they are unlikely to look for a job; they are likely to be implicated in a crime by other people or are likely to commit a crime if they are in a certain emotional state. Significant correlations have been found between the expert prediction and the inclination of the person serving a sentence to justify theft, deny their guilt in the crime committed and put the blame on the victims, to be indifferent to the criminal act, and not to plan to apply for a job after serving the sentence.
