The Person’s Commitment to Their Country from the Perspective of Individual Life Values
The article is devoted to the topical problem of studying psychological
factors of person’s commitment to their country, with individual
life values being their integral parts. The author has undertaken an
empirical study of the value orientations of the representatives of
Russia and Kazakhstan, who are committed to their country and
who want to emigrate. The study is based on the S.Н. Schwartz’s
motivational values concept and understanding of the psychological
commitment to social community as person’s cognitive-emotional
holistic formation, expressed in subjective representations of the value
of their own country, its attractiveness, prospects for satisfying the
major needs and desire to build their future within its borders. The
study has indicated that commitment to the country is more closely
connected with the values based on the culture, traditions, contacts
with other people, while emigration intentions are associated with
a more individualistic and hedonistic life-orientation. The material
may be of interest for the further empirical and theoretical research.
