Two preachings on Lazarus Saturday: The moral dimension of friendship according to Saint Justin (Polyansky) and Saint Innocent of Kherson

Introduction. The article is devoted to the concept of friendship in Christian ethics. The author analyses the idea of friendship and its moral aspect in two previously underexamined in Russian theology sermons of Saint Justin (Polyansky) and Saint Innocent of Kherson on Lazarus Saturday. Theoretical analysis. The research allows us to make the following conclusions.

Personal Representations of Friendship

The results of the factorial analysis personal representations the friendly interactions received by means of an author's technique of the reflective self-report «I and my friend» are presented in the article. Scientific ideas about the basic components of friendly interactions are expanded and filled by the new empirical maintenance: mutual trust as a basis of any interactions; mutual reciprocal altruism as semantic setting; empatic resonance as mental and emotional understanding of Other, absolute acceptance as a recognition of authenticity and value of Other.

Sociocultural Standard Interpersonal Relationship

The paper reports outcomes of a theoretical reflection of Russian
proverbs and sayings about friendship and friendly relations. The paper
alleges that by means of them sociocultural codes and meanings are
transmitted. It is shown that proverbs, representing aphoristically
short speech, imagery and manifest emotional content, and reflect
national-specific context the term «friend», which is determined by
cultural and socio-psychological factors, which provide different
