Student Youth’s Social Perceptions of Blogger Personality

This article presents the initial results of the empirical study into characteristics of the student youth’s social perceptions of a blogger personality. Taking into account the growing popularity and young people’s enthusiasm about blogosphere, it can be said that the social representation (image) of the blogger as a multilevel socio-psychological media phenomenon is one of the most significant in the field of forming an individual holistic view of media. The study involved 1,020 students (age range = 17–23) of Chernyshevsky Saratov National Research State University. The empirical material was compiled using the methods of association experiment. The data obtained from the study were processed through a prototypical analysis proposed by P. Vergès. Individual conversations and analysis of online discussions were used here to control the results. The results showed that respondents assess the blogger’s personality primarily in a positive emotional sense; the representation of the views is characterized by concepts with a positive semantic connotation. A blogger is perceived by respondents as a young person who disseminates certain meanings and values, providing real help and performing various significant functions. The problematization of the blogosphere expands the scope of media psychology as a science of personality, which is included in the context of media culture, and indicates an increasing tendency towards changes in media behavior.
